Press Release

Mrs. is pleased to announce our participation in NADA Miami 2024 with works by Sarah Bedford, Meghan Brady, Nickola Pottinger, Nevena Prijic and Robert Zehnder; on view at Ice Palace Studios, Miami, Florida, Tuesday, December 3 through Saturday, December 7. Despite their differences in mediums and techniques, a unifying theme emerges from their works: a deep and profound connection to nature and energy.

Sarah Bedford's intimate floral paintings evoke an overgrown terrarium on a sunny windowsill, reflecting botanical hybrids that cast cosmic shadows. Combining floral landscapes and semi-abstract still lives the artist offers a portal into and-out-of a seemingly rarified plant ecosystem of her own design.  Similar to dance, Bedford’s flowers appear to move - twisting, turning lines with drooping floral heads bobbing within a clustered composition.

Meghan Brady's paintings exude a generous spirit; her work often resembles a patchwork quilt, woven with motifs and symbols including flora and fauna, evolving in form and playful arrangement.  Brady celebrates her organic forms and textures in earthly tones and vivid hues, embodying the vitality and energy inherent in natural ecosystems.

Nickola Pottinger's sculptural practice bridges the gap between art and environmental/personal reflection, using upcycled paper pulp and collected objects to create compelling forms that celebrate her family and their Jamaican heritage. Her works often address themes of sustainability and the delicate balance between human intervention and the resilience of nature, resonating with a profound energy rooted in ecological consciousness.

Like the “magic eye” images of the 90s, Nevena Prijic’s paintings, rife for projection, detail the specificity of the unknown. In a tangle of lines and planes, Prijic outlines the daily contraction and expansion that we are experiencing in time. Her biomorphic forms, painted in vivid colors, flow toward the future at a rhythmic pace of their own. These energetic forms are in constant states of twisting and becoming, evolution refusing a moment’s rest.

Robert Zehnder's landscapes emerge from feelings of isolation, uncertainty and obsession with art history. Re-envisioning the landscape tradition, the artist engages multi-perspectives in his compositions, approaching his artworks cartographically. Zehnder utilizes a reductive visual vocabulary, void of objects or inhabitants, to illustrate surreal geographies. The resulting paintings give the appearance of fictitious maps, guiding the viewer through meandering paths of environments succumbed to the effects of industrial civilization.

Regardless of the varied mediums and approaches, Bedford, Brady, Pottinger, Prijic, and Zehnder collectively demonstrate a sensitivity to the rhythms, textures, and energies of nature. Whether through direct representation, abstract interpretation, or thematic exploration, these artists invite us to reconnect with the natural world and consider our place within it. Their works serve as a reminder of the profound influence of nature on human creativity and existence, urging us to appreciate and preserve the vitality and spirit that surround us.
