Press Release

Mrs. is pleased to announce our participation in The Salon by NADA & The Community, with works by Alexandra Barth, Megan Bogonovich and Robert Zehnder; on view at 30 bis Rue de Paradis, 75010 Paris, France, October 17 - 20, 2024.

The Salon is a new collaborative invitational art fair, bringing together the best of contemporary art from NADA’s network of galleries and The Community’s network of non-profit arts organizations, coalescing in four days of programming at the intersection of art, music, fashion, and publishing during the Paris Art Week. This partnership builds on The Community’s Salon de Normandy, which was held in 2019 and 2020.

Alexandra Barth documents objects, human intervention and absence. With the gentle touch of airbrush on canvas, she captures the memory of particular details using flat, soft color and a nuanced range of white. Hard objects are rendered softly, slowly appearing more clear as the gaze lingers. Light casts heavy shadows as angular objects converge and become personified in her contemplative scenes - the resulting compositions evoke the quality of film stills. Having grown up in Slovakia in the 1990s within the starkness of Soviet bloc architecture, Barth hones in on objects that offer a sense of minimalism or uniformity.

Megan Bogonovich draws her aesthetic from the natural world, yet not one we recognize; her lavish and wild ceramic botanicals are a nature produced in the recesses of her mind rather than in the garden or forest. At times her work appears alien, like a flora found under the sulfur-rich rains of Venus. In other moments, pieces reflect the natural world with phallus and mammorial curves embedded in the lush vegetation. Bogonovich presents sex as a technical, even aesthetic facet with blossoms nestling bodily details among the fecundity of a stubborn weed. The sheer pleasure of these works offers a hint of critique; a world of imaginary nature calls caution to a future world of nature imagined.

Robert Zehnder’s landscapes emerge from feelings of isolation, uncertainty and obsession with art history. Re-envisioning the landscape tradition, the artist engages multi-perspectives in his compositions, approaching his artworks cartographically. Zehnder utilizes a reductive visual vocabulary, void of objects or inhabitants, to illustrate surreal geographies. The resulting paintings give the appearance of fictitious maps, guiding the viewer through meandering paths of environments succumbed to the effects of industrial civilization.
